How to make YouTube/Netflix/ Video play on Apple CarPlay or Android Auto ?

By Kimi June 18th, 2024 3318 views

If you have the V2 CarPlay or GEN PCM 3.1 module, some users want to watch YouTube videos.
However, ISUDAR modules, CarPlay, and Android Auto do not support video playback for apps like YouTube or Netflix.
Below is a method shared by other users on how to 'jailbreak' the phone to enable CarPlay and Android Auto to play videos from YouTube, Netflix, and other apps.
But this may not be compatible with all devices. For reference only.

Introduction to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto

Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is a convenient feature that integrates various iPhone apps with your car’s infotainment system. It seamlessly connects, enabling navigation apps, music playback, messaging, and phone calls—all without taking your hands off the wheel. However, not all apps are compatible with CarPlay/Android Auto, including YouTube and Netflix. This limitation is due to Apple’s focus on promoting safer driving practices and discouraging video viewing while driving.

Can You Play Videos on Apple CarPlay/Android Auto?

If you’re looking to stream videos during a break or while waiting for someone, yes, it is possible to watch YouTube on Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. To enable video playback, there are a couple of methods you can use.

  • FOR CARPLAY - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone to Enable Video on CarPlay

  1. Ensure that your iPhone is jailbroken and running iOS 10 or above, with support for wireless or wired CarPlay.
  2. Download and install the CarBridge app from Cydia or Sileo.
  3. Connect your iPhone to your car’s CarPlay display either wirelessly or via USB.
  4. Open the Settings app on your iPhone and navigate to “Profile Downloaded.”
  5. Scroll down and select the CarBridge app.
  6. In the CarBridge app’s home screen, tap on “Bridged Applications.”
  7. Select YouTube from the list of apps on your iPhone and add it to your CarPlay dashboard.
  8. You can now launch YouTube from your CarPlay dashboard and enjoy watching videos.

  • FOR ANDROID AUTO - How to root Your Android Moible to enable video on Android Auto

  1. Root your mobile device to gain superuser access. The method to root varies significantly between different phone models, so you will need to look up specific instructions for your model. Be aware that rooting carries risks, and may render your device unable to boot into the system. Please proceed with caution.

  2. Open Android settings → search for Android Auto, go to the Android Auto settings page, scroll down to "Version and permission info" and tap it 7 times to enable developer mode. Then, tap the three dots in the upper right corner and select "Developer settings," and check the box for "Unknown sources." Exit the settings.

  3. Install S2A.apk (the file must be named S2A, do not rename it). You may see a warning that the application is harmful; select "More details" → "Install anyway."

  4. Open Screen2Auto, grant all permissions, and if you encounter issues with enabling accessibility features, go back to the home screen → settings → apps → Screen2Auto, tap the triangle in the upper right corner → "Unlock restricted settings," then return to Screen2Auto and enable the remaining permissions. Ensure all permissions are granted; otherwise, mirroring or touch control on the car unit may not work.

  5. Install Magisk v26.1.apk.

  6. Open Magisk → settings → enable Zygisk, return to Magisk → modules → install LSPosed-v1.8.6-6712-zygisk-release.zip → install Shamiko-v0.7.3-174-release.zip, then exit without rebooting.

  7. Install AndroidAuto-XLauncherUnlocked-v2.0.1.apk.

  8. Open LSPosed (you can find it in the dropdown menu on the home screen) → modules → AndroidAuto-XLauncherUnlocked-v2.0.1 → enable the module → check the box for Android Auto. After completing, exit to the home screen.

  9. Reboot your device.

Finally, connect to the car unit, you should see the Screen2Auto icon. Tap it and open YouTube on the car unit to test.
Additionally, after rooting your phone, some apps may not function due to security reasons, such as Samsung Pay and many banking apps. Please be aware of this.
